Notes from Judy and Maria About the Grand Palladium Lady Hamilton Resort
Location
The Grand Palladium Lady Hamilton Resort is located:
- approximately 30 minutes from the Montego Bay International Airport
- approximately 30 minutes from Negril
- near the village of Lucea.
In designing the resorts, the best and most popular aspects of each Palladium were incorporated into these two hotels in Jamaica – making these hotels the latest generation of Palladium Resorts. The Grand Palladium Resort is fresh and exciting and are considered the Flagship Palladium ResortsI The Fiesta Hotel Group owns the land on both sides of the hotel and across the highway up into the mountain. There are no other hotels located on either side of the two hotels.
The buildings at the Grand Palladium Lady Hamilton Resort are soft pastel pink, yellow, or soft pastel green Jamaican Caribbean Village-style with lattice woodwork and grey shingled roofs. The inside entry to the buildings feature tropical palm trees, flowing fountains and greenery. The suites are very large and feature all of the amenities of the Mexico hotels with upgrades to a flat screen television and an alarm clock/radio/IPod dock. The bathroom featured a huge marble shower, Palladium amenties, and a large double size Jacuzzi tub. The colors were bright and cheerful and the artwork was Jamaican. Our balcony had a spectacular ocean view. Most of the buildings are situated very close to the sea and the views are glorious.
It is very important to note that the food quality at the Grand Palladium Lady Hamilton Resort is high. We never experienced such wonderful meals in Jamaica! We hope that the resort is able to maintain the quality it now has. In speaking to Mr. Caso, he explained to us the difficulty of obtaining varieties of food in Jamaica. The hotel tries to purchase the food locally, but it is very difficult to do. Most of the food is imported.
Note: in each restaurant the chef is skilled in that type of food preparation. There is a Chinese chef, a Mexican Chef, an Indian Chef, and Jamaican Chefs. The food preparation is authentic.
During the first evening and last evening we dined in the air-conditioned Asian Restaurant. We dined on crispy duck, Chinese lemon grass soup, egg rolls, steamed pork rolls, fish, and sweet and sour chicken. The food was extremely high quality and well-prepared! In fact, we experience some of the very best dining we have ever experienced in the islands.
The air-conditioned Jamaican Restaurant is designed like a Jamaican village and is very colorful. We dined on fish and jerk chicken. Very, very good preparation.
For breakfast one morning we dined in the ál a carte restaurant. Eggs over easy on a T-bone steak with hash browns, French toast, eggs Benedict, fruits, pastries and so much more. The other mornings we took breakfast in the buffet restaurant which offered a wide variety of options to select from.
We dined one day in the Italian Restaurant. The lasagna is extraordinary! Each day the chef prepares a different variety of paella. Rice and fish, chicken, pork, vegetables, and more. We recommend experiencing this dish.
We noted that In the evenings, honeymooners were celebrating a romantic “tiki lit” dinner on the beach with waiter service. This dinner is an optional fee and can be arranged with the concierge desk in the lobby. In the evening the main bar area in the center of the hotels is the place to meet. The bar overlooks the sea and at sunset the views are beautiful and are a great photo opportunity. This bar is very large, the wooden upholstered furniture is classy, and live music is featured – flute player, violinist, Jamaican Reggae Band and more. The entertainment team had the guests smiling, laughing, dancing and participating is Reggae Dancing. It was so much fun.
The reading lounge, Miss Lou, features international drinks, tea, coffee, pastries and fruit. It is air-conditioned and has wireless internet. Actually, the entire hotel is being wired for internet. At this time it is not working in all areas. We know the WIFI works in the lobby and some bars.
The Disco is located across from the Sports Bar. It is a great, fun disco. It is bright and cheery and decorated with artwork of Marilyn Monroe, Bob Marley, Elvis, James Dean’s Car and of course, the Jamaican bobsled. All of these active spots are situated in one convenient area.
There is day and night entertainment for children, teens and adults throughout the hotel complex
Scuba Dive
- A dive shop is located on site at the Grand Palladium Lady Resort for snorkeling, scuba diving, and water sports.
Golf (located near the Grand Palladium Lady Hamilton Resort)
Tryall Golf Club is considered one of the top courses in the world. Ralph Plummer designed the par 71, 6,920-yard course.
An ideal time-tested mix of fun and challenge. With holes that kiss the shoreline and flirt with edges of jungle ravines, Tyrall Club features the most celebrated golf course in the Caribbean. Tyrall’s 18-hole, was designed by Ralph Plummer and has played host to such prestigious international events as the Johnnie Walker World Championship, last won here by Fred Couples in 1995.
The signature par-three 4th hole incorporates the natural challenges of the Caribbean Sea and the Flint River, while the memorable par-four 7th hole provides a dramatic tee-shot through the stone pillars of the historic aqueduct that feeds the adjacent waterwheel.
Tyrall is famous for its caddies: lively, entertaining, experienced, dedicated – with an uncanny ability to track down wayward shots and to read the breaks on even the trickiest greens.
Rick's Café in Negril
Located approximately 40 minutes from the Grand Palladium Lady Hamilton Hotel is Rick’s Café in Negril. We visited Rick’s Café one evening and watched people jump from the cliffs into the water, watched the sunset, and listened to local bands. It was really a fun evening. One note of interest, the drivers on the road to Negril are maniacs!
The Grand Palladium Lady Hamilton is designed in a charming Jamaican Victorian-village pastel décor. The hotels are fresh and welcoming and, in our opinion, will give many of the hotel brands in Jamaica a run for their money. The hotels opened with a soft opening and we were impressed how well everything went. Not to say there weren’t any bugs in the system, because there were, but situations were immediately attended to. It was the best opening we have ever attended.
The Grand Lady Hamilton Resort is new, high quality, value-added hotels in what is our opinion, the best location in Jamaica.
