History

Ocho Ríos (Spanish for "Eight Rivers") is a town on the northern coast of Jamaica, located in the parish of Saint Ann. It is a popular tourist destination, well known for scuba diving and other water sports. Ocho Rios is one of the fastest growing towns in the Caribbean.

Ocho Rios was once a fishing village, but is now a popular tourist destination in the Caribbean as well as a famous stop for cruise ships going into the Caribbean. It is only second in importance to the tourism industry of Jamaica.

Ocho Ríos is also known as the home of Dunn’s River Falls.. This is a popular attraction that is visited by thousands of visitors each year. Dunn's River Falls cascades down approximately 695 feet into the sea. Visitors take pleasure in climbing the falls, which are fed by springs located in the hills above.

Ocho Rios features a number of good restaurants, a lively night club scene at Margaritaville as well as two popular attractions in Jamaica—Dunn's River Falls (described above) and Dolphin

Dunn’s River Falls

Visitors can make the 600 feet climb from the base of the falls, hand-in-hand like a human daisy chain, guided by competent staff. Guides at Dunn's River Falls are skilled at leading you up the falls and can use your camera to take your picture as you pose under the many falls.

The not so daring can walk alongside and observe the falls and climbers from many entry points; while taking those memorable photographs.

For those sun lovers; there is a beach located at the base of Dunns River Falls where the river meets the ocean. At the top of Dunns River, you can expect to find souvenirs and crafts, shoe rentals, changing facilities, and lockers.

Dunns Rivier Fallsis a "must-do" activity when visiting Jamaica.

Travel Tip:
When visiting Dunn's River Falls... wear swimwear, aqua socks or an old pair of shoes that you don't mind getting wet to protect your feet when climbing the falls, and bring a waterproof camera
